As a member of the uninsured dental club, myself, I know a minor toothache can be frightening. Still, I justify continuing without insurance by tell myself that if my ancestors survived for thousands of years without dentists, I should be able to get by without them too? But in truth, there was no such thing as preservatives or high fructose corn syrup hundreds of years ago. The kind of full mouth rehabilitation we have available today was just out of the question. Food quality was more organic and more suited to maintaining good health.

Modern Incline Conveyor Systems

Modern vertical conveyors contain a lot of innovative technology. These machines are used in many industrial settings to improve efficiency in mass production of many products you use. There are many configurations of incline conveyor systems but we’ll only talk about two here.

Automatic Bucket Elevators

These contraptions are specialized belt conveyors for bulk materials that move up a vertical path often many storeys high. Cambelt, a builder of industrial conveyors, designs bucket elevators for various applications including mining, agricultural, and final food preparation.

Powders or granules are loaded onto a horizontal belt, which turns vertical along a hold-down disc assembly — a set of stationary wheels holding the belt in place during a concave directional change. Buckets on the belt then lift the material until it turns horizontal again and is unloaded.

Because a bucket conveyor can’t be scraped clean like other belts, a specialized rotary belt “thumper” is used, which shakes debris from the buckets on the downward journey by vigorous vibration. Air knives are sometimes used depending on the material conveyed.

Spiral Incline Conveyors

Spiral conveyors are made for the purpose of lifting packaged goods in tight horizontal spaces. They convey product up a circular path. The side-to-side shifts along the conveyor’s path make one piece belts unusable. But the moveable slats they use leave gaps, which aren’t useful belt conveyors for bulk materials.

Spiral conveyors often use overlapping slats supported by bearings to travel from circular to straight paths and back. When the segmented belt moves across straight parts of the conveyor at either end, slats align uniformely. But when on the circular section, one side of the segmented belt expands to take on the shape of the path.

The speed of loading many packages on a spiral conveyor at once makes it a much more efficient vertical conveyor than most platform lifts for high volumes of product.

What Not to Store in your Storage Unit

Who doesn’t love the new TV shows about the storage unit auctions. I currently work for a large storage facility company with storage units in Rancho Cucamonga as well as in parts of Utah, Idaho, and Colorado and love hearing about cool stuff people find in storage facilities. However, though it may seem like a glamorous profession there are some units that you would just not want to be anywhere near. That is why I thought it would be funny to make a list about what not to store in your storage locker.

1. Food

I hope I don’t have to tell you that perishable food items such as fruit and leftover meat from your latest barbeque should not be stored in storage units. However, many people are using storage units to store their emergency food storage supplies. Keep in mind that in case of an emergency it may be harder to acquire your food storage if your car was destroyed during the disaster, or even worse the storage facility along with your food. Keep that stuff close to home.

2. Drug Paraphernalia

More often than you may think there are drug sniffing dogs searching for hidden stashes of drugs in storage units. For some reason Drug lords love to use storage facilities as stash houses. Maybe it is for the convenience or the climate controlled feature that many storage facilities are offerings. Either way if there are drug sniffing dogs on the premises you don’t want them actually sniffing you out. We recommend staying away from drugs all together, however, if you must then keep them away from anywhere the DEA commonly visits.

3. Your Past

Let’s face it, we have all done things that we shouldn’t have done. Most likely there are records of these unproud moments in our lives in the forms of pictures or other related objects. Though it may have been cool then, or you may have been proud of a certain lewd act, there is no reason to keep evidence lying around. The last thing you want is your kids, wife, or even the police involved in investigating for any reason into your past. So please heed my advice and destroy all evidence!

Now that you know what not to keep at your storage unit I encourage you to go get a trash bag and start to find new homes for your “stuff.”

I stared. I couldn’t believe what I was seeing. “Ted!” My husband was in the kitchen. “Come here!”
“What? Why?” Was his answer. He hated it when I interrupted him while he was cooking, but this was important.
“I found her website! She actually stole my ideas!”
“Who’s website?” Ted came in and looked over my shoulder.
“Remember that crazy woman, Fanny, who came into the shop a few months ago and said she wanted to open a similar shop and got all creepy weird with the questions she was asking? Well, look! LOOK!” I waved emphatically at the screen. “Does that look familiar?”
“She copied your stuff!”
“I know! The logo even looks identical!”
“Let me see.” I stood so that he could sit down and turned away, my insides churning.
“What am I going to do, Ted? She’s a thief!” An idea flashed through my head, and before I knew it, I was headed for the door.
“Wait, Annie, where are you going with that gun?” Ted jumped up and barred the way to the door.
“I’m going over to Fanny’s, and I’m taking back my name!” I held the gun away from him as he reached for it.
“You can’t do it at gun point. There’s a little thing called online brand protection!” He dove for my feet, knocking me to the floor. The gun slid under the bed.
“Ow, Ted! That hurt!”
“Sorry.” He climbed over me and retrieved the gun.
I sat up and rubbed my knee. Great. He’d given me a rug burn. “That’s going to leave a mark.”
“Don’t be mad.” Ted had a smirk on his face as he put the gun away. “You are mad, though. Totally insane, Annie. You can’t do this by yourself. We need to find someone who specializes in trademark investigations.”
I was quiet for a second. “You’re right. That’s a much better idea.” I stood and went back over to the computer. “Let’s find a lawyer.”
“Good,” Ted said. “You save your brand, and I’ll go save my dinner.”
